Wheat_Future_Dreams450x299(AgWeek) – Upper Midwest farmers have caught up on their harvest of soybeans and nearly caught up on corn and sunflower harvest, the federal government says. Producers also have finished harvesting sugar beets and are done planting winter wheat, according to the Nov. 3 harvest progress report from the National Agricultural Statistics Service, an arm of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Generally dry and unusually warm weather in late October allowed area farmers to make rapid progress on what had been a later-than-usual harvest.

The wet spring delayed planting in much of the region, pushing back crops’ normal maturity.Soybean harvest is 99 percent finished in South Dakota, 98 percent done in Minnesota and 97 percent complete in North Dakota.

All three rates are higher than their respective five-year averages.Sunflower harvest is 54 percent done in North Dakota and 48 percent finished in South Dakota.

Both rates are close to their respective five-year average.Corn harvest is 71 percent finished in Minnesota, 61 percent complete in South Dakota and 55 percent done in North Dakota.

All three rates are below their respective five-year average, but the gap is smaller than a week earlier.Sugar beet harvest is wrapped up, or virtually so, in Minnesota and North Dakota.

The same is true of winter wheat planting in South Dakota and Montana, according to NASS. – See more at: http://www.agweek.com/event/article/id/24392/#sthash.ooDW8GmO.dpuf
