UN Food Agency Purchases Wheat and Sugar for East Africa

Farm Bill(Businessweek) – The United Nations’ World Food Programme bought $4.71 million of wheat and $1.9 million of sugar for delivery to eastern Africa, the Rome-based agency wrote in notifications on its website today.

The WFP this month bought $2.8 million of wheat from Tiryaki Agro AS for delivery to Djibouti, Ethiopia and Somalia and $1.91 million of the grain for delivery to Sudan. The agency also purchased $1.81 million of sugar from Hottlet Sugar Trading NV for Sudan, South Sudan and Ghana and $93,564 of sugar from Limako Suiker BV for shipping to Djibouti.

The WFP typically reports tender results with a delay of several weeks.
