The Word on Wheat

According to wheat comments to AgWeb’s Virtual Wheat Tour, many farmers are satisfied with this year’s crop. Here are some of their reports:

Cheyenne County, Neb.: Finished wheat harvest Saturday. Yields  were nothing to talk about, however the quality was very good.

Huntington County, Ind.: We finished wheat harvest June 25,  which is by far the earliest ever. It yielded about 71 bu./acre, which is very  surprising due to the lack of rain.

Lancaster County, Pa.: Yield checks on the wheat yesterday at  116 and 132 bpa, verified with the help of a Pioneer seed representative and a  CNH engineering representative.
Buffalo County, Neb.: Finished wheat harvest today — have never even started by this date before! Wheat yields (irrigated) were excellent, over 100 bpa. Will bale the straw and plant a short season corn with hopes of making silage out of it.
Southeast Indiana: Still extremely dry here. Finished wheat  harvest on June 19, earliest ever. Yields ranged from 53-87 bu./acre. Average of  81 bu.
